Members of the Cooperation with the Professional Community Committee (CPC) provide information about Alcoholics Anonymous to those who have contact with alcoholics through their profession. These professionals include health care professionals, educators, members of the clergy, lawyers, social workers, union leaders, and industrial managers, as well as those working in the field of alcoholism. Currently, we are also cooperating with a program of the New York affiliate of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence and funded by The Smithers Foundation that trains physicians to diagnose, treat and case manage alcoholics and other addicted patients. The program, the Physician’s Alcoholism and Addiction Training program, pairs an AA member with a resident physician from an area teaching hospital for three consecutive evenings to help the physician understand the progressive nature of alcoholism and the AA recovery program.
